Year 12 textiles
We were set a brief called the white
project which i then chose ace as a main link to inspire my work, I explored this by trying out samples such as screen print of lace, ruffles
using light silks and lace and also applique with lace. My final piece consists of panels of sheer organza with a lace screen print down the centre and back, fine lace appliqué and delicate materials for the ruffles.
I also experimented with different samples that I could develop unto my final piece which again used lace this included heat transfer appliqué, ruffles, box tuck pleats, box pinch pleats, couching and Suffolk puffs.
In this brief we were set the colour project and I chose Moroccan culture which I researched into finding different traditions, also the Burqa and the meanings it has for women and men. I then wanted to merge the elaborate pattern and the overall Burqa shape which evolved into my final piece of a hooded waist coat highlighting the pattern which were hand printed using lino prints and foam boards prints I drew. It was made from a circle pattern piece with triangular off cuts used for the hood in a sheer organza which contrasted with the tradition of covering the body and face in dark layers for respect.
