Life drawings

These are some of my fist attempts at life drawing which I thoroughly enjoyed as a way of getting quick sketches out in a short period of time. Some of the medias used were oil pastel giving colour and highlighting areas of the body and also giving tine. Then fine liner, charcoal and soft pastels worked well for me in the others.

Year 13 Final piece designs & Samples

My final piece has resolved itself into a structured dress that pulls in at the waist and is sleeveless highlighting the shoulder detail which will involve my folded manipulations on top of the material to give extra form. My coral screen print will also be printed along the lower part of the dress which will have  free machine embroidery on top developed from the McQueen Atlantis link. Flowing out of the waist will have large dyed silk ruffles which will run down both side of the dress again to add body to the dress linking with my sea life page. I will also include aqua- film with free machine appliquéd on sections going back to my cells link.

Year 13 sketchbook- Surreal and Dreamlike

Here I explored Rene Magritte and found the surreal photographer Man Ray which I then took my own photos inspired by his work. I also made a double exposure commotion with a landscape and eye composition, this then developed onto a heat transfer on fabric with free machine stitch to add detail to the eye.

These pages I developed from researching into a collection by Issey Miyake which gave me a botanical link so I explored tropical plants and focused on the centre of flowers. I made a mixture of samples and origami techniques to explore this which I then developed into a jacket which has the most successful technique falling own to the sleeve.

This work was inspired by the surreal artist Max Ernst which gave me the coral link that I observed different types and also create a bubbly hole effect heating organza and also tyvek paper and adding detail with the sewing machine.

The focus was scale and colour with these pages which I sketched large butterfly's inspired by Salvador Dali on double A1 pages, which I used oil pastels which worked well to blend and also acrylics. I also fragmented a drawing used with soft pastels to give a fragmented surreal feel.

This page was linked to the designer Iris Van Herpen and her couture micro collection where I then explored cells and micro structures using dissolvable fabrics like aqua- film to give a cell like look.

This page was also a link to Max Ernst where I looked at sea life and dyed silks using different dying techniques and painting with dye, developing from shells and the sea.

This developed from my coral page and also inspired my Alexander Mc Queen link which I made a series of designs on photoshop which I repeated and used symmetry to create a final composition. I printed on various materials and also added more detail with embroidery thread.

Year 12/13 photography

This piece I created when exploring landscape photography which I created using a double exposure and merging man and nature and also making it monochromatic to show more tone and depth.

This was inspired by Gerhard Richter overpainted photos which I used the same technique of a scaling paint and dropping it on to create unique pieces.

This was an emulation I did from one of the first landscape photographers Ansel Adams again using black and white film to give a dramatic feel and the way he breaks the rules of thirds in the composition having the horizon through the middle.

This is another double exposure using silhouettes which woks well as both photos I took give the idea of looking into the distance.
I chose a theme of chaos and order to base my personal investigation on which here I used thrown colourful dust taken with a fast shutter to catch it in mid air.

This again uses thrown dust repenting my theme and the harsh two halves contrast so vividly which mirrors my chaos and order theme with the splashes of exciting colour for chaos and the bare face symbolising the order.

I hand embroidered over the top of these photos I took which again fitted with my chaos and order theme and the way it conceals sections of the face gives mystery drawing the eye.

This composition was influenced by Brno Del Zou with his photo sculptures made up of sections layered on top of each other creating a morphing distorted face that also highlights different angles and depths.

Year 12 textiles

We were set a brief called the white project which i then chose ace as a main link to inspire my work, I explored this by trying out samples such as screen print of lace, ruffles using light silks and lace and also applique with lace. My final piece consists of panels of sheer organza with a lace screen print down the centre and back, fine lace appliqué and delicate materials for the ruffles.

I also experimented with different samples that I could develop unto my final piece which again used lace this included heat transfer appliqué, ruffles, box tuck pleats, box pinch pleats, couching and Suffolk puffs.

In this brief we were set the colour project and I chose Moroccan culture which I researched into finding different traditions, also the Burqa and the meanings it has for women and men. I then wanted to merge the elaborate pattern and the overall Burqa shape which evolved into my final piece of a hooded waist coat  highlighting the pattern which were hand printed using lino prints and foam boards prints I drew. It was made from a circle pattern piece with triangular off cuts used for the hood in a sheer organza which contrasted with the tradition of covering the body and face in dark layers for respect.

Year 10/11 GCSE Art

I chose a theme of Architecture and in particular the finer stonework and detail within the buildings, I then travelled to different ruins and churches for inspiration and took photos which would then develop my work. Some of the media used here was inks and bleach on the bottom left piece, water colours, sgraffito and also intaglios which i found gave the detail i wanted by using a scratching method in the top left pieces.

I then developed these intaglios further by focusing on the stone work and gargoyles and printed on a range of surfaces such as books and map sections. I then cut sections of the printed gargoyles to make a composition which was inspired by the centre of a church building.
